Birth is one of the most important life experiences a woman and family will move through.
Whether you are preparing for your first baby, planning a VBAC, hoping for a waterbirth, navigating an induction, preparing for a cesarean, or looking for postpartum support, having the right support around you can make a meaningful difference.
Doulas of Dubai was created to help families understand the role of doulas and connect with professionally trained doulas across Dubai. Each doula in our community works independently, while being part of a wider professional network committed to respectful, ethical, and family-centered care.
Our goal is to help you feel informed, supported, and confident as you prepare for birth and early parenthood.
A doula is a trained birth professional who provides emotional, physical, educational, and practical support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
A doula does not replace your doctor, midwife, nurse, or medical team. Instead, a doula works alongside your care providers to support you and your family through the emotional and practical experience of birth.
Doulas offer calm presence, continuous support, evidence-informed information, comfort measures, encouragement, and guidance as you prepare for and move through birth.
A doula can support you by helping you:
Understand your options
Prepare questions for your doctor or midwife
Create a birth plan or birth preferences
Feel emotionally supported during pregnancy
Explore comfort measures for labor
Support your partner in knowing what to do
Navigate changes or unexpected decisions
Prepare for postpartum recovery and newborn care
Feel seen, heard, and respected during your journey
A doula’s role is not to speak over you, make decisions for you, or give medical advice. A doula’s role is to help you feel supported, informed, and connected to your own voice.
You can hire a doula at any stage of pregnancy, but many families begin looking for support in the second or third trimester. Some families reach out early in pregnancy, while others only realize they would like support closer to birth.
A doula can support you through many different birth journeys, including:
First-time birth
Second or third birth
VBAC preparation
Waterbirth preparation
Induction
Cesarean birth
Planned cesarean
Postpartum recovery
Pregnancy after loss
Miscarriage or stillbirth support
High-risk pregnancy
Gentle birth preparation
Partner preparation
Birth planning and decision-making
You do not need to have a specific type of birth planned to benefit from doula support. Doulas support all kinds of families, all kinds of births, and all kinds of decisions.
Whether your birth unfolds at home, in a hospital, in water, with an epidural, through induction, or by cesarean, a doula can help you feel more grounded and supported.
During pregnancy, a doula can help you prepare emotionally, mentally, and practically for birth. This may include birth education, birth planning, discussing your preferences, preparing your partner, understanding hospital policies, and helping you feel more confident in your choices.
Many families use their prenatal sessions to talk through fears, previous birth experiences, cultural or family expectations, comfort measures, postpartum planning, and how they want to feel during birth.
Your doula can also help you think about questions to ask your doctor or midwife so that you feel more prepared for appointments and decision-making.
During labor, a doula provides continuous support. This may include calm reassurance, breathing guidance, positioning suggestions, massage, counter-pressure, movement, rebozo support, water comfort, emotional encouragement, and support for your partner.
A doula helps protect the emotional environment of birth. She can remind you of your preferences, help you understand what is happening, and support you through changes if your birth takes a different direction than expected.
Your doula is there to support you, not only through contractions, but through the moments of waiting, decision-making, intensity, vulnerability, and transformation.
Doulas also support partners. A doula does not replace the partner. Instead, she helps the partner feel more confident and involved.
Many partners want to help but are unsure what to do in the moment. A doula can gently guide them with practical suggestions such as where to stand, how to offer touch, when to encourage, how to advocate respectfully, and when to rest.
With doula support, partners often feel less pressure to know everything and more able to be emotionally present.
After birth, doulas can support families as they adjust to life with a newborn. Some doulas offer postpartum visits, newborn care guidance, feeding support, emotional check-ins, birth debriefing, sibling adjustment support, and practical help during the early days.
Postpartum support can be especially helpful as families recover, process the birth experience, learn their baby’s cues, and find their rhythm together.
The postpartum period is not meant to be done alone. Families deserve support after the baby is born, not only before.
Doulas are not medical providers. They do not diagnose, prescribe, perform clinical tasks, make medical decisions, or speak on behalf of the medical team.
Your doctor, midwife, and nurses are responsible for your clinical care. Your doula is responsible for emotional, physical, educational, and practical support.
A doula may help you understand your options, prepare questions, and feel more confident communicating with your medical team, but all medical decisions remain between you and your healthcare provider.
Doulas of Dubai values positive and respectful relationships between doulas, hospitals, doctors, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. We believe collaboration creates a better experience for families.
Doulas of Dubai supports public education around waterbirth and gentle birth options. Water can be a powerful comfort tool during labor and, when appropriate and supported by your healthcare team, may also be an option for birth.
Waterbirth is not about a perfect outcome or one specific way of giving birth. It is about understanding the benefits of water, the importance of safety, and the value of creating a calm and respectful birth environment.
A doula can help you prepare for a waterbirth or water labor by discussing comfort measures, positions in the tub, partner support, hospital policies, questions for your provider, and ways to stay flexible if plans change.
Gentle birth does not mean birth is always quiet, easy, or without medical support. Gentle birth means that the family is treated with dignity, choices are respected, communication is clear, and the emotional experience of birth matters.
Whether you birth in water, on a bed, in an operating room, or with medical support, you still deserve to feel seen, informed, and respected.
Choosing a doula is personal. Training and experience matter, but so does connection. The right doula should feel like someone you can trust, communicate with openly, and feel safe around during a vulnerable time.
When speaking with a potential doula, you may want to ask:
What kind of training have you completed?
What services do you offer?
What is included in your package?
How do you support partners?
Do you have experience with my type of birth plan or situation?
How do you work alongside doctors, midwives, and hospital staff?
What is your backup arrangement if you are unavailable?
How do you support families if plans change during birth?
What is your approach to birth preferences and decision-making?
How do you support postpartum recovery?
It is also helpful to notice how you feel during the conversation. Do you feel heard? Do you feel comfortable asking questions? Do you feel respected? Do you feel that this person understands what matters to you?
A doula should not pressure you into one kind of birth. A doula should support your values, your voice, and your choices.
Every family deserves support that feels right for them.
Our Doula Directory allows you to explore independent doulas in Dubai and connect directly with the doula who best fits your needs, values, language, birth preferences, and stage of pregnancy or postpartum.
Each doula listed works independently and manages her own availability, services, and fees.
